Karen Walker: The 2015 John Tunstall Outstanding Staff Award is given to a staff member who has executed their duties in an exemplary manner in support of those programs which prepare teachers, administrators or others entering the field of education.

Blanche O’Bannon: The 2015 Helen B. Watson Outstanding Faculty Research Award is presented to a full-time faculty member or team within the departments of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, Educational Psychology and Counseling, Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport Studies or Theory and Practice in Teacher Education.

Amy Broemmel: Faculty Recipient Elizabeth Blanton: Student Recipient The 2015 Helen B. Watson Faculty/Student Award for Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation is awarded to a student and the faculty member who directed the outstanding doctoral dissertation within the departments of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies; Educational Psychology and Counseling; Kinesiology, Recreation, & Sport Studies; or Theory and Practice in Teacher Education.

Partnerships that Make a Difference: Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature

As part of the university’s successful Carnegie Community Engagement Classification application process, the Office of Research and Engagement has compiled a list of fifty of UT’s best community-campus partnerships. The university will be celebrating its status as an engaged institution throughout the coming year by featuring these individual examples in articles that highlight their unique contribution to the community. This week’s partnership spotlight is on the Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature.

Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature

Tennessee’s only Center for Children’s and Young Adult Literature promotes the use of literature in the education and lives of children and young adults by providing workshops for teachers and librarians, and sponsoring talks by authors and illustrators which are open to the public. Publishers of children’s and young adult books place review copies of  recently published books in the Center, where they are available for study within the Center by librarians, students, teachers, and the public. This program started in 1999 and engages approximately 10 UT faculty members and 150 students each year.
