Students who are earning a baccalaureate degree in the College of Arts and Sciences and who are also seeking teacher licensure in elementary, English, foreign language, mathematics, music, science, or social science education are urged to earn a minor in either elementary or secondary education. Students who do not earn a minor as part of their undergraduate studies will be required to complete the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite if they plan to enter the fifth year of professional study. Students earning a baccalaureate degree in mathematics or science seeking licensure to teach math or science in grades 6 – 12 should complete the VolsTeach minor while pursing their baccalaureate. Alternatively, they may purse a math or science 6 -12 licensure by completing the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite to a fifth year of professional study.
Students should note that courses taken to satisfy the minor will not fulfill teacher licensure requirements.
