The elementary education program at the University of Tennessee prepares teacher candidates to work with students in grades K-5. Candidates are prepared to work in diverse settings to effectively meet the individual learning needs of their students.
Path to Teaching Certification
To earn their teaching license, candidates earn a B.A. or B.S. (typically from the College of Arts and Sciences) with a minor in elementary education. Then they complete the Professional Year – graduate coursework and a yearlong internship that leads to a master’s degree (Master of Science, Elementary Education Professional Internship Concentration). Certified elementary educators are licensed to teach kindergarten through grade 5.
