VolsTeach Science Education Minor

The VolsTeach Science education minor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville prepares candidates to teach students to teach Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Environmental Science to students in grades 9-12 as well as to teach middle grades science 6-8.  Candidates are prepared to work in diverse settings to effectively meet the individual learning needs of their students.

Path to Teaching Certification

To earn licensure to teach secondary Science, candidates earn a B.S. in a science content area (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) with a minor in VolsTeach. Students complete a semester of apprentice teaching Fall of their senior year, beginning work at their placement the same day their mentor teacher returns from summer break and continuing through the semester until the University’s exam schedule begins.
