To pursue teaching licensure in one of the STEM fields, review the requirements as listed in each of the minor areas below.
Students who are earning a baccalaureate degree in a science field who are also seeking teacher licensure in science are urged to earn a minor in either VolsTeach or Science Education Grades 6-8. Students who do not earn a minor as part of their undergraduate studies will be required to complete the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite if they plan to enter the fifth year of professional study. Students seeking licensure to teach in grades 6-12 should complete the
VolsTeach minor while pursing their baccalaureate in a science field. Alternatively, they may purse a science 6 -12 licensure by completing the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite to a fifth year of professional study. Students seeking licensure to teach Middle Grades (6-8) Science should complete the Science Education Grades 6-8 Minor. They will complete their licensure requirements through a fifth year of professional study.
Students who are earning a baccalaureate degree in the College of Arts and Sciences and who are also seeking teacher licensure in Math are urged to earn a minor in either elementary or secondary education. Students who do not earn a minor as part of their undergraduate studies will be required to complete the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite if they plan to enter the fifth year of professional study. Students earning a baccalaureate degree in Math seeking licensure to teach in grades 6 – 12 should complete the VolsTeach minor while pursing their baccalaureate. Alternatively, they may purse a Math 6 -12 licensure by completing the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite to a fifth year of professional study.

Alternatively, they may purse a math or science 6 -12 licensure by completing the equivalent of a minor as a prerequisite to a fifth year of professional study.
Students should note that courses taken to satisfy the minor will not fulfill teacher licensure requirements.
