The Specialist in Education (Ed.S.), Special Education Concentration is an advanced professional development program for practicing educators and behavior analysts. The program is dedicated to preparing teachers for leadership roles in the profession or students may elect to complete coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis.
A Masters’ degree and generally three (3) years of professional experience are required for admission to the program. Completion of the EdS program requires 30 hours of graduate-level coursework beyond the Masters’ degree including (a) 6 hours in core courses, (b) 18 hours in specialized courses, and (c) 6 hours to be determined by the student’s committee. Both thesis and non-thesis options are available.

The total EdS program involves a minimum of four semesters of study with at least 60 semester hours of graduate credit beyond baccalaureate, including research/thesis hours. Education courses at the 400-level required for licensure are not eligible. At least two-thirds of semester hours accumulated in Masters’ Program and the entire last 30 semester hours accumulated must be in 500- or 600-level courses. The Ed.S. thesis must be approved by the student’s committee prior to submission to the Office of Graduate Studies for final approval and acceptance. The student must register for thesis hours during this time.
