The secondary English education with ESL PreK-12 minor program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville prepares candidates to teach English/Language Arts to students in grades 6-12. In addition, candidates are prepared to support English Language Learners by earning an additional licensure endorsement in ESL PreK-12.
Path to Teaching Certification
To earn licensure to teach secondary English and ESL, candidates earn a B.A. in English with a minor in secondary education. Then they complete the Professional Year – graduate coursework and a yearlong internship that leads to a master’s degree (Master of Science, English Education Professional Internship Concentration).
