Biography
Leala Holcomb is a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. They study Strategic and Interactive Writing Instruction (SIWI), a comprehensive instructional program to support the development of deaf students in areas of language and literacy. Their mentor is Kimberly Wolbers, professor of Deaf Studies and founder of SIWI. Holcomb has a doctorate degree in education with specialization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing learners. Their future research focus is to create evidence-based approaches in developing Deaf children's signed language and signed literacy skills.
