3 + 1

The BS joint degree program between UTK and UTHSC follows a 3 + 1 program format. The first 3 years of the program are completed in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education through UTK and include courses in Special Education, Deaf Education, Educational Psychology, and American Sign Language. Students also must complete coursework in English, Psychology or Cognitive Science, Biology, Physics or Chemistry, Math, Statistics, and Linguistics.

Students take AUSP 300 (Introduction to Communication Disorders) typically during the Sophomore year (Term 3 or 4). Students must complete this course with a grade of B or better in order to be admitted into the Senior Year.

After completing 60 credit hours, students apply for a conditional admission to the UTHSC. After completing 90 credit hours, students apply for full admission to UTHSC.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better to graduate with the BS Joint Degree. Failure to maintain the appropriate GPA may result in delayed graduation and/or removal from the program. All AUSP courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
