The University of Tennessee, College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences and the Department of Theory & Practice in Teacher Education, in cooperation with the Civil Air Patrol, NASA, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Office of Aeronautics announces the 2017 UT Basic and Aerospace Education STEM Workshop to be held partially at UT Knoxville from Wednesday, July 5 to Wednesday, July 19, 2017. Three hours of graduate credit will be earned with all cost of tuition provided by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Office of Aeronautics. Enrollment is limited to in the greater Knoxville area. The earlier you apply, the better your chances of selection. There will be an alternative wait-list when the workshop is full. Once you have been notified that you are admitted to the workshop, you will need to apply to the Graduate School.

CURRICULUM

All instruction will be a balanced combination of classroom learning and “hands on” laboratory experience under the supervision of instructors who have extensive experience and expertise in their respective aerospace science fields. Field trips are planned, including a trip to NASA Teacher Resource Center and US Space and Rocket Museum in Huntsville, Alabama. This can either be a one day trip or an extended trip (depending on how much you want to spend). Local flight experience/instruction will be provided by the Civil Air Patrol. Students are REQUIRED to join the Civil Air Patrol as an Aerospace Education Member (AEM), $35 membership dues. Priority will be given to teachers in the greater Knoxville, TN metro area.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION WILL BE SENT TO YOU in Spring 2017. You may contact Ms. Pat Flynn, pflynn@utk.edu, 865-974-0068, our administrative assistant to confirm your application has been received. You will receive notification that our application has been submitted once you select the submit button. Please notify us by April 1, 2017 if you decide not to take the workshop.
