Biography

Brenda Stephenson retired as a senior lecturer in the Deaf Education program. Prior to coming to UT, she taught at the Tennessee School for the Deaf in Knoxville for 12 years and was the elementary principal for 11 years. She began her career at the University of Tennessee by serving as an adjunct professor for five years. She became a full-time faculty member in 1998.

Stephenson teaches courses in speech development, psychology of deafness, and practicum classes. She also supervises the graduate internship. She has been involved in grant work at both the state and federal level. She has published articles about best practices in deaf education.
